Description: This dataset contains best endeavours aggregation and depiction of regulated river water sources derived from In Force Water Sharing Plans (WSP) for regulated systems. Water sharing plans are legally binding plans made under the NSW Water Management Act 2000. The Australian Water Information dictionary defines a ‘regulated river’ as “A River on which a licensed entitlement regime exists with centralised allocation, and from which orders may be placed for upstream release of a licensed allocation.” Informally, a regulated river is downstream of a large, actively-managed surface water storage and includes, in most cases, the water impounded by the storage’s dam. The attributes of this dataset include citations to the ministerial orders declaring rivers to be regulated. More information on the management of water resources in regulated systems can be found on the Department website: https://www.water.dcceew.nsw.gov.au/our-work/allocations-and-availability/allocations/how-water-allocated/principles-allocatingA metadata and data quality statement, including lineage information, is available in the Documents section of the dataset homepage on the NSW SEED portal.
