The area within the boundary is declared to be a floodplain under the Water Management (General) Regulation 2025.</SPAN></P><P><SPAN>The floodplain is 12,300 km2 in area and extends downstream from Wagga Wagga in the east to the junction of the Murray and Murrumbidgee rivers in the west. The floodplain includes the northern end of the Yanco and Colombo creek systems, as well as the Gum Creek anabranch. </SPAN></P><P><SPAN>The floodplain will connect with the floodplain boundaries for the FMPs being developed for the Murray, Lachlan and Billabong Creek valleys, improving the assessment of cumulative impacts from individual flood works across the southern Murray–Darling Basin.</SPAN></P><P><SPAN>A combination of hydraulic and administrative factors, where appropriate, have been used to develop the floodplain boundary including: </SPAN></P><P><SPAN>• inundation data within the Murrumbidgee catchment </SPAN></P><P><SPAN>• hydraulic model development </SPAN></P><P><SPAN>• the previous localised Hay to Maude FMP </SPAN></P><P><SPAN>• water source boundaries, as established in water sharing plans </SPAN></P><P><SPAN>• local government areas </SPAN></P><P><SPAN>• major roads and railways which act as barriers to large scale flood movement.</SPAN></P></DIV></DIV></DIV> |
